AgriExtApp is a shared product by the Ministries of Agriculture, the Agricultural Extension organizations in the Caribbean region and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) to ensure that farmers (men, women, youth) in the Caribbean can receive remote advice using their mobile phones.
The digital system seeks to help farmers to solve their production problems related to different items, products or groups of products with the possibility of virtual-digital access to rural technical assistance services.
The mobile application provides:
• access to locally adapted and curated fact sheets for key agricultural products with information on crop or livestock management, good agricultural practices, sanitary and phytosanitary information
• alerts and timely information from extension officers to farmers
• networks of users by country and products or group of products, in which farmers and technical specialists share information on their agricultural problems and solutions
• online assistance for agricultural advice or extension services on demand
For farmers to use it, it will be necessary to register in the app to access information on the management, good practices, pests or diseases of the areas of interest, as well as interact with other producers and extension agents to consult and discuss solutions. Technical information is available in easily accessible factsheets and exchanges between farmers or with extension workers can be done with messages, photographs and videos.
The mobile app is currently available for three pilot countries (Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines), escalation of this technological innovation to other Caribbean countries is possible upon request through the IICA Delegations in each country.
